Please stand by…optimizing

You know these things, right?  The hourglass in Windows, the spinning color wheel on the Mac – all signs that your computer is doing important stuff, right?  Well, it happened to me last night in the middle of, well….nothing really, I was just surfing the web, reading some of my daily hits. Whenever I get these kinds of messages, it’s a sign to me that things need to be cleaned up.  I’ve installed too many trial programs for testing – my working drive is getting cluttered.  I’ve not re-booted in a few days.  We all know the drill, and we … Continue reading

New Podcast is Up!

That’s right, for two successive weeks now since our move, I’ve been able to find the time to record an audio podcast.  Todays show had everything to do with the absolutely horrendus performance by the Broncos last night on MNF – their season turned to the toilet rather quickly.  What ever happened to the fundamentals? Oh, sorry, this is a photo blog, not a football one!  Okay, here’s the latest and greatest from CB.  First and foremost, CB Episode #55 went up today.  I took about twenty minutes to talk about off-camera lighting.  I looked at the radio transmitters availabe, … Continue reading

Five Friday Freebies

It’s fun to share resources that can really help you save time and money in pursuing your photography goals, and because there’s not a lot of really high quality resources out there, posts like these are few and far between.  However, I do have a few resources that may prove useful to wrap up the week: Online Price Calculator – So many people ask “How much should I charge for…”  Well, here is a good starting point.  For something more serious look FotoQuote Free Stock Photos – So many stock photo sites out there, yet none seem to offer up … Continue reading

Wednesday Walk around the Web returns

As the final hours approach me here on Tuesday, I still find myself struggling to capture something of interest that would be a fun topic for the “What’s This?”, so, a rather easy one is up for your guessing pleasure. Truth be told though, this is kind of lame, and as such, I would like more of the focus for today’s post to be the traditional “walk around the web” Here’s what’s going on this week in photo land: First, stop over to Scott Kelby’s blog – guest writer John Nack from a little company called Adobe will be filling … Continue reading

Finally Friday – A Week in Review

Yes, it’s finally Friday, and with a long weekend ahead of us, we can enjoy a little more down time. Mine will start about 30 seconds after I finish this post! Anyway, some updates on the Orphaned Works Act – some very passionate members of the NAPP community have been working together to get a website up to get the word out on a broader basis, so keep your browsers tuned to www.defendyourart.com over the next few days as updates, links to news items, and representative info will be going live. Additionally, posters and graphics are being compiled for people … Continue reading

Monday Pictures and Puzzles

Monday morning news. This past weekend I had a photo shoot I did for a co-worker and her kid (he apparently did not get very good school pictures this year). After about 20 minutes of shooting and putting him in various poses, I figured I had enough (about 50 shots) to get four poses for her to choose from. So, having done that, we sat back and sipped our morning coffee while the kids got ready to hit the beach. The older youngster was sitting around with us (older being relative – she was about 10-12). Playfully, without even looking, … Continue reading

Another Photo Finish Friday

With another Friday coming to an end, I am squeaking this one in under the wire too. After a deluge of rain delayed dinner and a few other odds and ends, I find myself finally sitting down to write the Friday post at 10:47 pm. Thankfully, the details are all worked out in advance so it really requires no additional work on my part. As promised, my latest web gallery is up and viewable on the photo site directly at this link here: A Day in the Park, but a few previews of the ones I really loved have lightbox … Continue reading

Now is the month of Maying

There is an old saying that goes something along the lines of “April showers bring May flowers.” While this is generally a principle that holds true, in the photography world, it is also the time when things start really hopping. Below is a list of just some of the activities that drive the photography industry as we move into late Spring and early Summer: Wedding season kicks into high gear (wedding photographers) High school and college graduation parties are scheduled (which is great for portrait photographers) Engagements are announced (with anticipation of #1 the following year) (portrait photographers again) Family … Continue reading

Finally Friday (again)

Well, it’s been a log week folks, and since I’ve put a bit of time into various projects this week, I am feeling somewhat sleep-deprived, so not much will happen today, except to say that my Friday post will be delayed for another 12 hours or so.  Tomorrow is the anniversary (made it 5 years and she still loves me!), and we’ll be doing some stuff with our neighbors.  So…I should have some time tomorrow morning to share some Friday fun with you (only on Saturday).  Just to give you a hint, the theme is “Friday Freebies!  So, if you want … Continue reading
