You know, I used IPhoto from 2002 to 2007. I'd create separate libraries for different trips, and I was happy with the management system I devised. Then a friend of mine gave me their copy of Lightroom that they weren't going to use.........

I think IPhoto is a competent program. Little light on editing capabilities, but you know what? It comes with every Mac. It's a great starting point, and if you get to that "next step" moment you can take it. Overall, I personally never had any complaints with it. Now I have a workflow process that really required a Lightroom or Aperture, and have moved to it. But I'd never discourage the use of IPhoto.
