This one has sparked my interested. I will have to take a wait and see on this. I am not sure what the two crop sensors would do. Two is usually better than one *L*. 18 Megapixels squeezed into one crop sensor !!!! I wonder how that is handled. Could it be 9 megapixels on each sensor? Increasing the dynamic range would get my vote. I was leaning toward the 5D MKII but I am going to see how this plays out.

I’ve been awaiting this for a while. I’m saving for the 5Dmii for the full frame needs and nature/landscape shooting. I’ve wanted a better crop body to upgrade my 40D (which I still love) in hopes of lower noise at higher ISO. I dig the flash control built in. I don’t really care about the video on either the 7d or 5d. Maybe I’ll come around, but right, now, not important. I am looking forward to seeing if the AF is a jump forward. I can’t wait to start seeing reviews and getting my hands on one.

I think canon is still trying to hold onto the crop sensor market for alil longer. I had a feeling the xxD series cameras were coming to an end with the 50D. As consumers we are always looking for the new update even when the new one is here! Maybe Canon with the new 7D is branching out to a new direction.. You can’t have the same series cameras forever, you’ll run out of numbers:-) Ok now for my thoughts about the new Canon 7D. The crop sensor was a sore spot but other features have made me look harder. The 100% viewfinder, newer focus control,onboard wireless flash system(very sweet) and my favorite a new battery! Yes the BP-511 512 have been replaced!! I bought 5 batteries for my 20D and today they still can’t keep charged, Wasn’t sure if it was batt prob or camera, so i replaced it with a new camera body and batt system! So congrates to Canon for changing the batteries!! The megapixel war is done in my eyes, who cares if it 15 or 18 megapixel it’s still not a full frame! Canon had a 11.1 full frame at one time, but cost was higher too! Maybe Canon will start looking into a lower cost full frame in the next couple camera cycles!! Crop sensors will be a thing of the past sooner then you think!! Jus my 2Cents!

I agree with you “Jim G.”!! That naming system makes NO SENSE! I also think it’s a bit misleading using that naming convention and then NOT being a FF. Really Canon?? I love you guys, but why the heck would I dole out $1700 for another crop sensor? You can bet your bottom dollar that when/IF I ever have nearly $2k to burn, I will invest in a 5D MKII without batting an eye!

P.S. I am also a “small potatoes” photographer at the moment…and though the 7D would be considerable upgrade from my 40D, no way would I buy the 7D at that price tag. But, here’s to hoping the 7D will maybe cause a price drop in the 5D MKII…I know, wishful thinking, but I am hopelessly optimistic.

I think it looks like a great buy to me. As a Pentax guy, I’ve been eyeballing the new K7 (what’s with “7″ in all these new model numbers?), however, after seeing the specs on this Canon, I may reconsider.

The debate over crop sensor vs full frame is a good one, but in my opinion, unless you really need the pro-level quality (which will not be apparent whatsoever in regular 4×6 prints) then spending all that extra money on the full frame (not to mention the EXTREME cost of glass for FF cameras) is too great to overlook. The actual quality of photos in TODAY’s crop sensor cameras are so good that it’s hard to tell the difference.

It would have been lunacy for Canon to bring this out as a FF. They have that 5Dmk II still on backorder and its flying off the shelves. I do like the flash controls and the level system. Canon are covering their bases, and covering them well, with this camera. It looks like a great bit of kit. I'll be sticking with my two 5d's and my 50d though but I can see a lot of takeup for this camera espeically in the run up to Christmas. I don't think it will break into the pro-wedding market much though as (already stated), for around 500 USD more you can get a 5D mkII which is about as good as you can get for wedding shooting these days. .-= Kevin Mullins´s last blog ..Newport, South Wales =-.

Ah, I’ve been hearing about this one…..too bad on the crop sensor. Love that it can control a wireless flash out of the box, that’s interesting to me. I have my 40D and 5D Mark II. Don’t think any new bodies are in my future.

I’m with Peter on a still camera being a still camera and if I want video mode, I’ll buy a video camera. Seems the industry is against us. Having a 40D I’ll save longer and get the 5D Mark II. Crop and full frame; different tools for different shooting situations.

BTW why is Canon mixing model numbers? A 7D as a crop camera and me being logical, would think a 7D is supposed to be an improvement on a 5D. Seems like this one should be a 70D. Maybe I’m too logical.

I own 5D Mark II, two of them and I would love to have one of these instead of one of my 5D. The new AF, FPS and flash control make this a much better photo camera and the variable frame rate make it a better video camera.

Of course, it is not full frame. But that is about it! Everything else SEEMS better as long as you dont have to work in low light. Even then, we will have to wait for more reviews…

I think if someone is looking for a video camera and owns anything below a 40 or 50D it’s probably a nice upgrade, but it’s getting in the 5D mkII territory. Personally I’m sticking with my 50D, and I still love my Canon VIXIA HF100 for HD video. I’m one of those still cameras are still cameras and video cameras are video cameras kinda guys all in one machines are not always the best of both Worlds.

If it had a full frame sensor, I’d consider it.

For $500 more than the 7D kit you can get the full frame 5DMKII. If you are upgrading then I would save a little more and go full frame. .-= Dizzle´s last blog ..A DeNic Update =-.
