My tip is to take lots of photos. My brother gave me a challenge to take 100 photos a day of subjects I have not taken before. This has opened my eyes to new possibilities. I also am part of the RedBubble site where groups have periodic challenges. These directed challenges have also expanded my view of the possibilities.

Another tip is to really read your camera manual. I have had my camera for several years now and am still finding settings that are adding positivity to my outcome.

5. My tip would be this: study the gear, know the rules, and think about all of that while you’re not shooting. When you are shooting, forget. Do what comes naturally, what seems right in the situation. If you’ve studied enough, you’ll have internalized what matters and you won’t need to think about it. Trust your intuition.

4. Really don’t know about this one.

5. As someone one starting out the 1 thing I have found that helps me a lot is putting my images out there and asking for feed back from other photographers not friends and family! Even if the photographers are your friends, they won’t go “oh yeah that is a great shot” Instead if they do like it, they tell you why, if it needs work, they tell you why. Best of all they will try to help you get the image that you saw in your minds eye but didn’t appear in the view finder. Books are great I have several, but nothing beats real feed back and suggestions from people who do this all the time.

Use different perspectives. Just because you think it may be a funky picture, it may be a great shot.

I’m always interested in other photog’s workflow, so that would be something I’d love to see – either as an ebook or guest post, whatever.

My biggest tip that I keep trying to stick to right now is stop comparing yourself to others. It’s wonderful to browse and get inspiration, but comparison won’t get you anywhere but low. You have to have determination to do better come from within! As for a technical tip – backup, backup, backup.

I love my iPhone camera simply because it is always with me. My favorite app so far (favorite setting of favorite app, to be specific, is the Helga setting of Camera bag. Love the color saturation, the contrast and the heavy vignetting. Example:

As for guest bloggers, newsletters and future posts, definitely keep it Canon-centric. Going into flash, more advanced functions of the camera, etc.

It also would be nice to get more in-depth on actually “working” with the camera. Weddings, model shoots, portrait sessions, etc. This might be another good fit for guest bloggers.

I am using my iphone more and more for photography, it’s really a great tool. A couple of my favorites:

Light – Allows you to apply ambient lighting changes to a photo realistically. There are tons of different patterns, types, and styles of light you can add!
Photobuddy-reference app for photography
dSLRemote – allows remote viewing, shooting, and adjusting of your dSLR that is hooked up to a computer and network. Really cool using the live view mode, great for capturing candid pet shots or night shots.
photogene – photo editing on the iphone

I would love to see some guides, guests, tutorials, etc. on using specifically Canon flash. It can be anything from on to off camera, wireless, groups, etc. but there really is no good reference out there for learning to use the flash and get the most out of it. This would be good for guest posters, a newsletter, ebooks, or all three!

1) Going to skip it. Haven’t been using my Touch for my shooting (yet), so can’t comment.

2) Guest blogger? Hey, let’s get a Canon guy in here. How about Ben Wilmore, PixSylated…… some heavy Canon tips for sure.

3) Newletter? Ah, I’ve been thinking about how to fashion my video podcasts lately, and I think I know the formula now. A shoot location, an equipment review, a Canon tip, and some type of tutorial. That’s how I’ll be breaking podcasts up now, and I bet that would be a cool newsletter format.

4) I’d like to see some Canon E-Books. There are some BIG names shooting and training with Nikons. I’d love to see the equivalent content for Canon equipment. How about a 5D Mark II e-book? Well, I’ve already figured out my 5d Mark II, but it took months.

5) Enjoy where you are first. Don’t start looking through the view finder. Just start by looking!
